Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Great place for more authentic Mexican food but also some Tex-Mex items like fajitas, and enchiladas. Service has always been good and the decor is very representative of what us gringos think a Mexican food establishment should look like. Overall great food and a great place to hang out and relax! The shrimp cocktail is really good too, very authentic.

Ahuua's is my neighborhood Mexican place. I've dined in and ordered take-out and have always been satisfied. The atmosphere is festive, with a nice covered outdoor patio space. They do have live music on the patio on weekend nights. The service has always been prompt and friendly. Their prices are what I would consider mid-range, with dishes ranging from $12 to $18. I love their black bean soup and the grilled tilapia dish.

Congenial and quick service. Otherwise disappointing. Mediocre food, awful margarita.

Ahuas is more like true Mexican food with a little Tex-Mex. That being said true Mexican food is naturally a little bland so you have to know how to order and dress it with lime, salsa, onions, and cilantro. Service was great and they have a great Michelada. I am sure that I will be back to this restaurant.

Took some friends there last night. Was humiliated by the craptacular service, cold and burned food, and total disregard by the staff. Took two bites of my meal and was done! Disgusting!!! We will never go back. What happened to the old Ahuua's where the food was amazing???

try as i might, i do not believe that the words i write here can aptly convey my anger with this place at this moment. my girls politely asked tonight if we could have "chips n salsa" for dinner. as i was ridiculously proud of their accomplishments during the day, the details of which i will not get into here, i told them we could. even though i have had bad experiences here in the past, i decided that we would go to ahhua's because (1) it is the closest mexican restaurant to our house and (2) i know they have bands on the patio friday and saturday nights. i thought my two daughters might enjoy it. we were seated on the patio while the band was setting up and our food arrived at 6:50 pm. i know this because i took a picture, as i often do. i immediately noticed that i did not have any silverware. i didn't think much of it, and ate the taco off my combo plate, the one thing i could eat with my hands (at this point,it seems moot to note that i was brought a beef taco when it was supposed to be chicken), while i waited for the waitress to return. i waited and waited. and waited. waited....finally i went inside and looked to see if i saw a hostess and/or member of the wait staff. nope. not a one. sat back on the patio and waited. my girls were already done with their food. they proceeded to run around with the other kids on the patio while still i waited. finally, at 7:19 (yep, 29 minutes later...i checked), our waitress returned and asked how everything was. i asked her for silverware, and she responded, "pardon me." she then proceeded to make her rounds to the other tables under the patio before getting me the proper tools to eat the dinner i had ordered an hour earlier. after bringing me my silverware, and again stating "pardon me", i poked around at my cold food and took a few bites. it was ridiculously awful. by now i was ready to go. so i waited for my waitress to return so i could ask for my check. and waited. and waited while my restless kids were running around. and waited. and waited. if i knew the name of this particular waitress, i would tell you. all i can say is she was the one with the cold sore. tired of waiting, at 7:53 (yep...34 minutes later...i checked) i rounded up my kids and left. this may be an admission of a crime, but eff it. let ahuua's come after me for the disgusting combo meal i didn't eat, half a margarita, and the two kids meals my girls played with. to make matters worse, the band was worse than any band i've ever heard. they stumbled through every cover they played, and even stopped halfway through a GD matchbox 20 cover 'cause they were doing it so poorly (their setlist from my memory: zz top's cheap sunglasses, van morrison's brown eyed girl, kenny wayne shepherd's blue on black, a beatles song i can't recall, and matchbox 20's 3am that they didn't know). i wish i knew what everyone else saw in this horrible excuse for a restaurant. one yelper feels so passionately about this place that he directly referenced my previous review in his. it's just sad. please, i beg of you. don't ever ever ever go to this restaurant.

So-So Mexican food. Nothing stood out to make us want to return. Kind of expensive for what you get.

Food was kinda blah...the servers were very nice but didn't really help much.... had to ask twice for refills when our drinks were completely empty.or

I've been here twice and the food is amazing. The cheese and bean nachos are awesome and I don't even like beans so that's saying a lot. The wait staff could use a little training but they try. The first time I went our waiter seem new but he was was very attentive and tried hard. The second time I went it was for my Mom's birthday. No one was there to greet us when we arrived so we found a table ourselves. When the waitress finally walked by a few minutes later, the kitchen staff pointed out that we were in the dining room. After that she was pretty attentive.

Hands down the best happy hour in town. Half price margaritas from 4-7 every weekday, and not only are they strong but they are delicious too. I try to go once a week. Three kinds of salsa to choose from, the green one is delicious if you like heat! And ignore the first review here, the food is nothing like a tv dinner - if you get the right seat at the bar you can watch them make it fresh in the kitchen. Highly recommend the burritos or chimichangas, but anything you order is going to be great... and even better after a couple of those happy hour margaritas. Food is not the cheapest, but the price is about fair for the quality you are getting.

We used to like this place (see our previous review) but have eaten here a couple of times lately and found that the quality of the food has declined to the point that we won't return. Overcooked, almost hard, chicken, cold food, poor preparation and presentation...too bad!

Average TexMex in a town with plenty. Several years ago when they were trying to promote the place with Groupons, they were outstanding. Last visit several days ago yielded beef fajitas that were inedible. Flank steak must be marinated adequately to tenderize. Something went horribly wrong.

The food is always good, quesidilla's are the best! I wish they had one in the Lafayette area
